Compared with Xyris caroliniana, our other species with fimbriate, exserted lateral sepals, X. fimbriata is not bulbous, lacks twisted leaves, has a harshly scabrous scape, and inhabits wetlands.
Habitat
Boggy and peaty clearings in wet flatwoods, pocosins, and Atlantic White-cedar swamps. Rare in the s. Coastal Plain; most records are from in or around the Great Dismal Swamp.
