- Calcareous fens and spring marshes, wet meadows and prairies, calcareous seeps and seepage swamps; rarely in rich alluvial swamps, shell-marl swamps, and flatwoods of the Coastal Plain. Infrequent and local in the mountains (Ridge and Valley and southern Blue Ridge provinces); rare and disjunct in the inner s. and c. Coastal Plain.
