Seasonally exposed, sandy, gravelly, or silty shores and bars along the larger rivers and reservoir impoundments. Rare in the Coastal Plain and Piedmont; known from the Blackwater, Nottoway, Chickahominy, Roanoke, James, and Potomac rivers.
