Our plants represent var. concolor if var. var. devestitum (S.F.Blake) Semple of the Florida Panhandle is recognized. The two vary in vestiture of the phyllaries and upper stem leaves.
Habitat
Dry woodlands, clearings, and road banks. Frequent in the inner Coastal Plain and Piedmont south of the James River; infrequent elsewhere in these provinces; rare in the mountains.
