Comments
Early molecular studies (Manns & Anderberg 2009, Willdenowii 39: 49-54; Manns & Anderberg 2005, Int. J. Pl. Sci. 166:1019-1028; Hao et al. 2004, Molec. Phylogenetics and Evol. 31: 323-339) suggested that Anagallis is embedded in Lysmiachia and should be transferred there. However, a more recent study by Yan et al. (2018, New Phytologist 219: 436-448) maintained the separation with a narrower circumscription of Angallis. According to Flora of the Southeastern U.S. (Weakley et al. 2023), the recognition of subspecies in Anagallis arvensis is controversial because of differences of opinion about the putative differential characters.
