Confusion between Datura wrightii and D. inoxia J.S. Miller is suspected to involve hybridization due to the presence of plants with intermediate morphologies. Both have been attributed to Virginia. The draft FNA treatment considers them distinct, however, and attributes only D. wrightii to Virginia, which we follow here for our few records.
Habitat
Occasionally cultivated and sometimes escaped into weedy open habitats, especially in sandy soil. There is an unvouchered record from Suffolk City: disturbed sandy roadbank in cutover sandhill area formerly occupied by longleaf pines.
