- Comments
- Some authorities treat this taxon as a ssp. of Ludwigia grandiflora or treat both species under L. uruguayensis. However, Hoch in FNA10 (2010) argues that small but consistent morphological differences and different ploidy levels argue for keeping L. hexapetala distinct from L. grandiflora at the species level.
- Habitat
- River shores, sluggish streams, ponds and pools. Rare and widely scattered in the mountains and Piedmont; locally frequent along the Shenandoah River and its major tributaries in nw. Virginia. This species is beginning to spread more rapidly in some areas and has become demonstrably invasive at a few sites.
