- Mesic and dry-mesic montane forests; occurring in a wide range of community types at low to high elevations. Common in the sw. mountains, north to Tazewell, Pulaski, and Floyd counties; also in Highland County (the range continuous to our west in West Virginia); frequent in the far sw. Piedmont, especially in the foothills.
