Argus (1986) lists the Montgomery Co. station as naturalized. The 1936 specimen label reads: "VPI Campus (near Rock Quarry)" with a penciled note: "unplanted area, could be an escape". Massey and Ball, in "The Willows of Virginia" (1944), adds "near a quarry on VPI land, north of the campus, along small stream." The area remains wooded and undeveloped today, however, a search for the species has not been made.
