Described in FNA as one of the world's worst weeds and classified as a noxious weed by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. The species, native to southeast Asia, is now fairly well established in the Gulf coast region. First reported as a weed problem in Virginia in October, 2007; measures are underway to eradicate this first occurrence in Virginia.

Weed in cornfield in Westmoreland County.
