- Found in 1993 by Byron Carmean occupying a large area of an old landfill. Also found within the last decade in North Carolina, where it is already a "noxious weed" in several suburban areas. Considered invasive in Texas.
Lu et al. (2013, Mol. Phylogenet. Evol. 68: 502-515) showed that Cayratia, as traditionally circumscribed, is paraphyletic and that our species is in a clade more closely aligned with the genus Tetrastigma than with Cayratia s.s. It was thus separated in the genus Causonis. - Habitat
- Disturbed ground at old landfill. Currently known only from the City of Chesapeake.
