Native of Midwestern prairies and barrens, notably disjunct to scattered Piedmont sites in NJ, PA, MD, VA, and SC.
Habitat
Clearings and old fields on soils weathered from diabase. Rare in the Piedmont; known only from the Culpeper Basin of Fairfax and Prince William counties. Not recently seen.
