A Southeastern species, similar to Scleria triglomerata but with narrower, pubescent leaves and pubescent sheaths. It is apparently always a plant of dry habitats, never in wetlands.

Dry, usually sandy woodlands and clearings. Infrequent or rare in the se. Virginia Coastal Plain, with one record from the se., outer Piedmont (Mecklenburg Co.).
