- A Southeastern species, similar to Scleria triglomerata but with narrower, pubescent leaves and pubescent sheaths. It is apparently always a plant of dry habitats, never in wetlands.

- Dry, usually sandy woodlands and clearings. Infrequent or rare in the se. Virginia Coastal Plain, with one record from the se., outer Piedmont (Mecklenburg Co.).
