- Comments
- Flora of the Southeastern U.S. treats occurrences of this species east of the Appalachians as "likely introduced." However, early collections of the species and its frequency in high-quality bottomland forests along major Virginia rivers suggest that, like a number of other species, it breached the Appalachians pre-settlement. Its occurrence in disturbed habitats likely followed post-settlement landscape alterations. At least for now, we are continuing to treat Cynanchum laeve as a native species until more evidence to the contrary emerges.
- Habitat
- Floodplain forests, flood-scoured river shores, stream banks, and various moist to wet, disturbed habitats. Frequent in the Coastal Plain and Piedmont; infrequent in the mountains, except along the Potomac, Shenandoah, James, and New rivers.
