 - Virginia plants have often been called ssp. alba (P. Miller) Greuter & Burdet; however, FNA states that most North American material tends to be intermediate between ssp. alba and ssp. latifolia. Although this species usually has white flowers, pink-flowered forms occur occasionally (see photos).
