- A bulrush of northeastern and north-central North America; along with a population in West Virginia, somewhat disjunct from stations in n. and c. Pennsylvania. The species is at its southeastern range limits at the Virginia sites.

- Shenandoah Valley sinkhole ponds. Rare, mountains; known from three ponds in Augusta and Rockingham counties.
