 - Echinochloa crus-galli var. crus-galli is very similar to Echinochloa muricata and its varieties. Echinochloa esculenta (A. Braun) H. Stoltz occasionally persists as a remnant waif of wildlife food plots; it has been found in Caroline and Stafford counties, is fully fertile with E. crus-galli, and is perhaps better treated as E. crus-galli ssp. utilis (Ohwi & Yabuno) T. Koyama.
 - Habitat
 - Moist to wet fields, ditches, cultivated soils, river and pond shores, disturbed alluvial soil, and waste ground; generally weedy. Common throughout.
