- Comments
- Rarely recognized in past Virginia floristic studies. Most herbarium specimens are likely lumped under Panicum capillare or Panicum philadelphicum s.l. Sometimes treated as a species, this taxon is larger, usually more extensively branched, and weedier than ssp. philadelphicum. Map is incomplete pending herbarium work to segregate this taxon from similar congeners.

This subspecies has generally been included in Panicum capillare or P. philadelphicum (sensu lato) in Virginia studies, and its habitats, distribution, and status in the state are incompletely known.
