 - Comments
 - Genus change based on Mosyakin (2016, Phytoneuron 2016-79: 1-12 and 2018, Phytoneuron 2018-55: 1-11). Molecular studies show that a monophyletic Anemone can only be achieved by 1) including in Anemone genera such as Clematis, Hepatica, and others requiring hundreds of nomenclatural changes and a vastly different circumscription of the genus; or 2) the exclusion from Anemone of Anemonastrum, Hepatica, and a few other genera not found in our area. The transfer of Anemone canadensis to Anemonastrum follows the latter approach.
 - Habitat
 - Mesic forests. Rare, known from a few historical collections in the mountains and inner Coastal Plain of northern Virginia; no extant populations are known.
 - Native Status
 - Native
