 - Plants in our area are var. virginianum. Var. angustifolium (A. DC.) Griseb. is an extremely narrow-leaved plant of s. GA, s. Al, FL, Central and South America with foliage resembling that of Desmodium strictum.
 - Habitat
 - Forest edges, woodlands, dry clearings, and roadsides, especially in sandy soils. Frequent in the Coastal Plain and the outer Piedmont south of the James River; rare elsewhere in the Piedmont.
