- Road banks, forest edges, disturbed forests, fields, open rocky streamsides, and disturbed floodplains. Frequent in the mountains and Piedmont; infrequent in the Coastal Plain; mostly spreading from erosion-control plantings but sometimes escaped far from plantings, especially in alluvial habitats.
