- Aquatic in shallow water of sluggish streams, bottomland sloughs, beaver ponds, and other impoundments; sometimes stranded during late-summer, low-water periods. To date, documented primarily in the Coastal Plain, with a few records from the eastern Piedmont, and one in the Ridge and Valley region (Roanoke Co.).
