Sci. 185(4): 335–360, 2024) confirmed D. helleri as a distinct species sister to a larger clade including D. oligosanthes and D. scribnerianum.
- Habitat
- Native to the South-Central United States, this species was first identified in Virginia in June, 2026, growing on a constructed berm in a highly modified urban transmission line corridor in the City of Newport News. The plants were abundant, often forming monospecific patches, and were likely introduced via construction equipment.
